The National Cyber Security Centre (part of GCHQ) offer a great deal of free advice to help businesses protect themselves from Cyber Attacks. This includes very useful pdfs that are downloadable from their website.
Home Working is becoming increasing popular, especially since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. But the rush to achieve that has left some organisations more open to attack. The NCSC guide to home working says,
“Cyber criminals are preying on fears of COVID-19 and sending scam emails”.
The scammers are always out there and Coronavirus just provides them with new opportunities to steal your data and / or money.
We all hope Covid-19 will go away soon but these criminals will not!
Some of the advice provided by the NCSC can be easily implemented by your users if you make them aware of the potential risks. i.e. don’t store data on portable devices etc. (unless they are encrypted) and avoid using public Wi-Fi when sending and receiving sensitive data.
Although you can ask your users to take care, you can’t watch over them 24/7 so the enforced use of security products backed up by strict company policies are a must. At the end of the day – it’s your data and finances that are at risk not theirs!
We can help you with these IT headaches – we can identify the potential weaknesses and advise how best to resolve them.
In April this year the NCSC made changes to the Cyber Essentials certification process to ensure the standard was being implemented consistently across the UK. As a trusted partner of Indelible Data, we are still able to assist organisations with the technical questionnaire and its submission to IASME (NCSC’s Cyber Essentials Partner).
Your business may not need a Cyber Essentials certification but it’s likely your security can be enhanced and your data better protected.
